Vaping To Quit Cigarettes: The Story So Far

in #health7 years ago

Sweet, sweet tobacco

What draws me back to cigarettes isn't necessarily addiction, but more a kind of deep nostalgia. Especially now that the weather's picking up, I might look outside and think:

"Fuck this is good weather for watching the sun go down while smoking a tab."

There's just something so very chilled out and almost natural about that prospect. That you can sit around and do nothing but enjoy your beautiful environment for a couple of minutes without looking like a lost idiot, but in fact looking rather cool.

See, that's what I'm talking about.

Maybe

It has something to do with all my memories involving cigarettes, I still see tobacco in a rather romantic light - it reminds me of holidays in continental Europe, and house parties; I'd only smoked for a year and a half so I can't begin to imagine what it's like for a smoker of 10, 20 or even 40 years. But when you have a nice memory involving a cigarette, subconsciously you kind of link the memory to it.

When you smell tobacco smoke, sometimes you think about great people you've met who smoke. Maybe you even met them in the smokers area.

Maybe

It has something to do with the years and years of subliminal advertisements and product placements in movies.
The culture passed down from an age when smoking was encouraged, probably has something to do with it too.

I remember having a dream about smoking when I was just 8, I'd never touched a cigarette before, but in that dream I had one and I loved it...

The vaper

Yep, so I decided to quit anyway. Why?
Because everyone always complains.
Granted, that's the reason I started smoking - but hear me out!

I took this myself when I had an 'artsy-fartsy' moment.

Smoking doesn't damage your health straight away, we know this much, right? But I was forgetting that while you don't see the damage taking place, your lungs and blood are being slowly clogged and eroded.

But my health wasn't the real reason I stopped, the real reason is because to non-smokers, smokers smell bad. And I suppose if you smell bad, you're offending other people's senses. I used to not give a shit. But over the winter it got cold outside and I started to smoke inside the flat, which eventually pissed my flatmates off, when I went home my parents would say cringeworthy things like "Mmm, smokey Joe!" I think you see where I'm going with this.

So obviously, the vape was the best choice; you still get to inhale stuff, you still get nicotine, it's probably cheaper, you smell like an air freshener and can do it inside without anyone noticing. Yay!

So I bought one

This spaceage looking bastard.

Costing me £80 (I know it sounds like a lot, but I'm sure it'll pay off over time), I got myself a high end digital vape (woo, technology).

Sound, so that's it then?

No!

When you stop smoking and start vaping, something strange starts to happen. I know this isn't just me or just a coincidence because this has happened both times I've stopped smoking and started vaping.

What strange thing starts to happen Chris?

Well, you start coughing, really badly. Eventually it feels like you just can't breathe at all.
But thank your lucky fucks because soon after that, you'll realise why you had difficulty breathing as you cough up 12 litres of tar* over the next three weeks.
* Quantities may vary depending on the individual
I was only a smoker for a year...

Can vaping really reduce the addiction on cigarettes? Some of my friends just don't wanna stop haha.

Yup just try to build a small community out of it share some thought and fun activity just to avoid thinking about cigarettes ... at least its reduce the habits. it may not be the same but worth to try haha

I've found that if you really do want to stop smoking, vaping is a good replacement - the temptation is to go back to cigarettes though so your friends would have to want to quit.

I was just like your friends, I didn't see the point in quitting because I couldn't see how it was affecting my health.

Vaping does certainly seem like a less addicting replacement. It’s like graduating from beating your meat to sex.

A better and sweeter alternative.

Aha, I suppose so, to an addict though smoking gives you the best feeling; so switching to vape is more like sleeping with a less attractive girl.. who won't eventually give you chlamydia!

Smoking cigarette can truly damage your health especially to those "non-smoker person" near you who enhaled the large amount of nicotine from the smokes coming from the cigarette you used..Dunno about the vape though but it helps you to save the non-smoker people around you by avoiding yourself from any kind of smoke addiction that exists...it's not only for their sake but it is for your health also...always remember "HEALTH IS WEALTH"😊

Well, the vape still has nicotine in it - it's just designed to replace the method of nicotine administration. The real health problem with smoking cigarettes is the tar, the carbon monoxide and the simple fact that you're inhaling burnt plants :p HEALTH IS WEALTH!

Either way , they still contain nicotine ....so, it is safe to stop any form of smoking ...you should start taking care of your health😊 Cause prevention is better than cure 😃

I was a heavy smoker and quit after I try a creamy juice low mg on a mech mod and form that 'O' kinda fun too lol thats where I able to forget about smoking since I have my kids around me ...

Yep, O's and other vape tricks help make the transition so much easier. Something I sometimes do for reasons beyond my comprehension, is turn the lights off and blow vape on my backlit keyboard.. god knows why - I suppose it looks good?

A smoke free environment is always better for kids so good call there.

Okay man wish you bad luck, a lot of my friends started vaping, but all fell back to cigarettes. I like to vape, i don't possess a vaper, but i just take the ones of my friends to make rings of smoke. I even allow them to vape in my car or in my flat, because it smells so good. Try out the taste "heisenberg" , if u did not have already

You know, it's strange that you'd mention that specific flavour because it's one of the few I've tried! Their naming for the menthol versions "Heisenberg on ice" and "pinkman on ice" are a brilliant play on words if you've seen breaking bad before!

I know someone who smokes 2 packs a day.... Never plans to stop

I'd be more worried about how much money they're spending! Here in the UK, a pack costs about £7 ($10)! They'd be spending $140/week on cigs! With time, he might decide to quit?

I hope he quits soon

I only smoked a cigarette once and I hated it. I'm using a vaporizer to smoke weed:D

Yeah, the first can taste pretty bad but once you've finished it you get that incredible baccy buzz; like being really tipsy for a minute! Did you get wrecked for 4/20? :D
