Glucose is the major source of energy for all body cells, this is because the cells do not recognize any other source. There are various sources of glucose namely carbohydrates, protein, fats or lipids. Every food eaten whether in form of solid or liquid must be broken down to an end product which is finally broken down to glucose through various pathways of metabolism.
The level of glucose in the Body must be maintained within appropriate level so as to avoid problems of health that may arise from taking glucose. To do this, it's necessary that individuals monitors his/her blood glucose level and this can be done by sample routine laboratory analysis.
Whenever blood glucose level is found to be above its normal range, such an individual may be said to suffering from a disease condition known as diabetes.

Diabetes is a disease that occurs when the blood glucose, also called blood sugar, is too high. Blood glucose is your main source of energy and comes from the food you eat. Insulin, a hormone made by the pancreas, helps glucose from food get into your cells to be used for energy. Sometimes your body doesn’t make enough—or any—insulin or doesn’t use insulin well. Glucose then stays in your blood and doesn’t reach your cells.

Over time, having too much glucose in your blood can cause health problems. Although diabetes has no cure, you can take steps to manage your diabetes and stay healthy.

The most common type of diabetes are
• Type 1 (insulin dependent diabetes)
• Type 2 (non insulin dependent diabetes)
• Gestational diabetes.
• Pre diabetes
