Working long hours, skipping meals, eating at odd times or an unhealthy diet all create stresses on our health and lead to acidity.
First, What is Acidity and What are the Symptoms?
The food that we eat goes down the oesophagus into the stomach. The gastric glands in the stomach create acid that is necessary to digest the food. Acidity occurs when the gastric glands produce a large amount of acid, more than what's needed for digestion. This condition leads to a burning sensation just above the stomach.
Here are some symptoms of acidity --
Burning sensation in the stomach.
Burning sensation in the throat and heart.
Bad breath.
Indigestion.
Prolonged sour taste in the mouth.
Nausea.
Restlessness.
Constipation.
The varied oily, spicy and heavy food at the irregular hours one takes while traveling is another major trigger for acidity and may become a key cause during the long hours of road travel.
To avoid acidity --
Try to avoid fried food.
Avoid eating too late at night.
Avoid too much tea and coffee.
Alcohol consumption is another reason for acidity.
Each individual’s reaction varies, and it is best to lookout for specific food or food habits that trigger acidity in you, and take care accordingly.
