How I got rid of tonsillitis in 3 days
Over last weekend I was struck down with a dose of tonsillitis. If you've ever experienced it you will know how painful and unpleasant it is. Not only does it feel like trying to swallow barbed wire every time you swallow but your entire body aches with fever and your head continually bangs as your body attempts to fight the infection. Not very nice at all.
It's not the first time I've had this. Every now and again they do flare up, but not often enough to justify an operation to remove them. Tonsils are useful little blighters anyway, they help prevent infection from getting onto your lungs which could cause more serious complications, so I'd rather keep them if I can.
My experience from about 4 years ago
The last time I got tonsillitis it felt very similar. A sore throat one day, followed by getting completely wiped out for a few days after. 4 years ago however I went to the Doctor on day 3 and he prescribed me antibiotics which eventually cleared the infection. Here is the timeline:
Day 1 - Slightly sore throat and a bit of tiredness. Nothing to be concerned about.
Day 2 - Horrific throat pain, tonsils swelled to about twice the size with discharge, fever and headache. Feel terrible.
Day 3 - No improvement. Visit to doctor. He immediately prescribes a 1 week course of antibiotics along with paracetamol.
Day 4 - Started antibiotics, still feel like sh1t, no improvement. Relying on paracetamol so I can eat.
Day 5 - Feel slightly better, able to swallow with minimum pain and eat my first decent meal.
Day 6 - Infection starting to clear up and fever almost gone. Glands still quite sore.
Day 7 - More or less feel normal again. Continued to complete the course of antibiotics as recommended by the Doctor.
Getting rid of tonsillitis in 3 days.
Day 1 - Slightly sore throat and a bit of tiredness. Nothing to be concerned about.
Day 2 - Horrific throat pain, tonsils swelled to about twice the size with discharge, fever and headache. Feel terrible. Immediately started swilling warm salt water, took 5 grams of vit C, 3000 I.U. vit D, Zinc and Magnesium supplements each day. Drinking 3 cups of green tea with raw honey and cinnamon (swilling it around my throat as I'm drinking it). Consuming raw garlic (about 3 cloves) mixed in a light salad. Taking a few paracetamol for the pain.
Day 3 - Swelling significantly decreased and fever almost gone. Continued as above with salt water swilling, green tea and paracetamol. Also able to eat a small omelette with mushrooms and lots of garlic and some fruit.
Day 4 - After good nights sleep with no throat pain I woke up on day 4 with virtually no swelling, no fever and feeling almost normal.
Conclusion
It might not work for everyone but my experience her was that a natural approach seemed to fight the infection much more quickly than antibiotics and with no damage to microbiome (gut bacteria) that antibiotics cause.
Many natural substances are naturally antibacterial and better for you than antibiotics. Raw honey, garlic, cinnamon, turmeric, salt water are some examples, there are many others. Refraining from eating much during the first day of infection will help your body focus it's energy on fighting the infection rather than digestion. Eat fresh fruit that is high in vitamins and minerals and light salads. Avoid sugar, alcohol (including liquid pain killers) and try to get as much rest as possible.
Antibiotics are becoming less useful to the world as they are oversubscribed and bugs have become resistant. Using natural remedies can sometimes be more powerful than prescription medicines, but always take your doctors advice.
