You already have all the details about the dangers of using tobacco, yet why is it so difficult to stop?
It certainly isn't logical to smoke cigarettes... it says right on the cigarette pack, "Smoking Kills", but that has not stopped you. However, if nicotine is so hard to kick, then how could it be that a lot of people are able to soar in an airplane without the cravings? A heroin or cocaine addict cannot do that.
It's no shortage of information which is the problem!
What is lacking is the right kind of motivation.
Has got the fear of a heart attack, emphysema, or lung cancer ever before stopped you? No. This kind of is because smoking wipes out nerve endings in your mouth, throat, and bronchi. You don't smell or taste as much as you used to, right? Years go by, which is how the damage is done. So since you feel no pain, knowing the negative consequences of smoking isn't sufficient inspiration. And since the greater part of cigarettes, you smoking are simply out of habit, you don't think about the dangers, even with the graphic images on the cigarette bunch or dire warnings from your doctor.
Motivation only will come in two flavors: apprehension, pain, suffering... or self-interest.
Which I have found helps people succeed long term: focusing on the positive as opposed to the negative... on what you want, but not on what you don't want. A hypnotic approach is a focusing and amplifying tool which will help you to do just that.
In other words, it is more useful to give attention to "being a non-smoker", rather than on "not smoking". Do not think about a pink elephant right now and you'll understand what I am talking about. Try not to think about smoking and that's all you can think about... when can you have the next cigarette. For most cigarette smokers, thinking of "not smoking" triggers great anxiety!
And when is quitting something a positive? It sounds like failure. Focusing on the positive, and being different in situations when you used to smoke is what makes being a non-smoker more sustainable.
Following all, who wants to experience a dark cloud hosting hanging over their brain? Should you amplify more stress and worry in your life? That may cause a heart attack!
Once you have chosen your day to become a no smoking, reducing the amount you smoke each day rather than stopping "cold turkey" is paramount. Going from smoking 10, 15, or 20 cigarettes (or more) every day is like strolling off a fast-moving train. It's going to be difficult and convert your world upside down.
The key this is to build experience of postponed gratification rather than creating fear of deprivation which drives you to smoke cigarettes more.
Scaling down to two to three cigarettes every day by smoking a brand a person like and altering your ritualistic smoking behaviors will make the transition much, much smoother. This is the principle behind smoking replacement methods. Unfortunately for some, with nicotine replacement, you have not addressed the hand that still gets to for a cigarette out of habit. It's not about chemicals; it's about increasing self-awareness, and you can't put self-awareness in a pill or spot.
Remember, it will be an experience that will motivate you to stop, one way or another. Either it will be an experience of unfortunate thing from the doctor (or worse) that forces your hand and is also usually not very enjoyable... or it will be an experience of late gratification, which is by far a lot more empowering. The choice is yours.
