As in many scientific achievements this can be both... a blessing and a curse.
On the one hand the possibilities to cure genetic disease seem endless and it could really make a different for so many people currently suffering from breast cancer for example. On the other hand it might reach levels of "self-improvement" just for optical reasons or might even be used to form something like a biological weapon if someone abuses it too much.
As you said... it really depends on how humanity and scientists deal with it. In the wrong hands or even because of ignorance it might pose a threat. Just as self-aware AIs might become either humanities downfall or its rise into new scientifical dimension in the future.
Thanks @vandaze for commenting like anything In life I guess it depends who is using it, yes we can save lives and yes it can be used for good. Its a tough call for me to be honest.
