I don´t take the pill (anymore). How I use a natural birth control method and how I got off the pill.

in #health7 years ago (edited)

Hi dear friends on steemit! Today I thought it is time to write about something political and very personal, the birth control. (If you are a man, this can also be helpful for you to read.)

As you may know already, I am all in for a healthy lifestyle and getting rid of chemicals and products that most of us use, without question it, and that are not necessary good for our bodies and the environment.
Here about the only water method for my hair if you would like to read more,

And one subject of this is of course the birth control, as most women now-a-days, take the pill on a long term to be sure to not get pregnant.

And yes, of course we have the right to get pregnant or not whenever we want to.

We should always have the right to choose if we want children or not, and also when. **

Do we need the pill for that?

The answer is yes or no, depending upon how we see it.

What happens when we take the pill:

I found this information on google: "The pill interferes with the communication that takes place between your brain and your ovaries. It disrupts your hypothalamic pituitary ovarian axis. It must do this to work. This is how it prevents you from ovulating.
The pill prevents you from producing fertile quality cervical mucus. Without mucus sperm can’t live inside your vagina or get anywhere near your eggs. If the sperm can’t get to your eggs then you can’t get pregnant.
Finally the pill prevents your uterine lining from fully developing so even if somehow an egg was fertilized it would have nowhere to implant."

You can read more here
Isnt that a crazy and somehow scary thing when our bodies do not ovulate? Isnt that is the most natural thing to do for a women body?

What happens when we stop taking the pill:

Did you know it takes about 3 months before all the hormons from the pill leave your body? I didnt know that when I stopped. I had just read that if you want to get pregnant, you have to wait some weeks before trying to get pregnant.
But it can be a big risk for you to get pragnant soon after getting of the pill, and I made that experience. I got pregnant in my fallopian tube just some weeks after getting of the pill. After a lot of pain, inner bleedings, 11 days in the hospital, a surgery where the doctors removed my left fallopian tube, a long painful recovery, I knew I will never take the pill again.
Luckely this story ended well short after when I got pregnant again, but my experience from the side effects from the pill had waked me up from trusting in pills that changes my hormons so drastically.

My journey toward a natural birth control.

I had taken the pill from the time I got my first boyfriend, until the day I wanted to have children. More than 10 years with a hormon changing pill!

I have always had long stable relationships and had no need to protect my self against genital diseases with condoms. (And btw, who else feels nothing when having sexual intercourse with condoms? Is that a issue only for women or also for men? You can answer for yourself;) Of course condoms are a great invention but can be developed little further I hope!) So my choice was to take the pill (there are of course other great alternatives but all or almost all of them includes the change of hormons). As I had very little experience and knowledge about my body and how it works, I thought it was all just fine.

When I then stopped with my pill, my whole inner life started to change. I had experience many years of being kind of mano-depressive and suddenly it was just gone. I was starting to feel happier and more in balance with my feelings. And also my body changed. But not only that, it was like discovering sex for the first time, it was really beautiful.
After the surgery and recovery I started to discover my own body in a whole new way. I started to inform my self about the pill and its effects and many things got clear for me.

How I prevent my body to get pregnant:

After the pregnancy with my son I havent take the pill. (And I will never do that again!)
I have used a ovulation calculator named cyclotest 2 plus since my sons birth.

But basicly you can do the same with a normal thermometer and measure your body thermometer right after waking up in the morning and write it down. Make a simple grafic about the highs and lows every month and you can see when you have your ovulation (always 14 days before you get your period.) This way you will get to know your body better and getting a good sence about when you have your ovulation. You have to be careful a few days (+-5 days) before and up to 3 days after your ovulation if you dont want to get pregnant, but the other days you can have your fun;)

This has worked very well for me and a few months after I started with this method, and got back my period after my pregnancy, I know my body pretty well and can say exactly which day I have my ovulation and which days I have to be careful. (I also developed a great body feeling that I havent had at all the years I took the pill. It is a quite amazing experience!).

Even with a lack of sleep, being a breastfeeding mom and so on, I have the power to feel my body and using a totally natural birth controll method that works good for me.

I would love to encourage you to inform yourself about alternative birth control methods and live a healthier life.

What I write about is my experience and my story. This is not right for everyone but is right for me.

Do you know your body?

I hope you do or will do one day! Because or bodies are amazing, and so are you. We can all live a healthy life away from pills if we want to.

If this article inspires you and if you have questions, feel free to ask. I am not an expert, only a learning human being!

Love you all!

Niina

I stopped hormonal birth control years ago. I got on it when I was still in high school to try to ease the symptoms of PMS and the severity of my cycle. Being so young I just went with it because I was so miserable every month.

Years later I tried a few different ones because I started having bad side effects like extreme moodiness and quite a few others. It took about six months before I had a period again after finally deciding I was done with it! Going plant-based definitely helped get me regular and eased some of the issues I had when I was younger.

So what method do you use now?;) I am happy it helped you so much getting into a plantbased diet, I think that it also helped me a lot. Thanks for all your support and love and passion darling!

I stopped hormonal birth control (pill and hormone coil) about 2 years ago and amazing changes happened. I recommend everybody to go of the synthetic hormones. Using a copper coil now. Your technique seems interesting too. Still got the coil for another 3 years. Might try the ovulation technique after that. Thanks for this wonderful and important share!

I did the brave thing and had a vasectomy so that me and my partner don't have any unwanted children without her destroying her body. Should we get that "primal urge" to reproduce in the future, we'll adopt one of the millions of orphans in the world without parents or a loving family.

Oh wow, yea that is indeed very brave. We thought about that too, but decided not to risk a vasectomy because we couldnt know how many children we wanted, I am so glad for you, that you both found a way that works!;)
Love, Niina

Children are the most VALUABLE in this world, I have 3 adult sons myself and I am proud of it every day.

I took the pill for many years before my children and always felt bad, oh how many times I had headaches, I can not even enumerate.

I can only recommend natural birth control.

Danke dir, das ist so wertvoll, was du da geschrieben hast!

Thank you Niina.

;) Thanks for stopping by my dear;)

I completely agree! I went on the pill 5 years ago and was so miserable it almost ended a new relationship. I went off of it despite Dr's telling me to stick it out or try another pill, it was such a horrible experience I didn't want to risk going through months of trial and error with different pills.
I'm so glad I stuck with my gut feeling and quit before things got worse. Now that (then) new relationship is a marriage and we have a beautiful family; two dogs and a baby! ❤IMG_20180120_084403_278.jpg

Oh your story is so beautiful and I am feeling so happy for you and your little gorgeous family darling! Love that picture too;) I think it can be so impostnat for us to be brave enough to let know of others (doctors;)) oppinionn and how we should take things like the pill like a normal thing to take. It is not normal to change your hormons for years just to prevent pregnancy. We can trust our bodies, we can develop a great sence for us self and we can get the knowledge we are lack off, to keep us away from pregnancy if we want to or get pregnant. I loved to write this article because I really feel we have all so much still to learn, especially about our amazing women bodies.;)

It seems like we are living an age where as women we are finally able to reclaim our bodies as ours, and not public property. Viva la revolution! 🎉

Yeaa thats so great!!!

I wish I was brave enough to stop taking my pills. I've been on them for over 10 years.
But I'm superduper scared of getting pregnant. I really don't want to have kids now and I don't think I'm brave enough to start using the natural method any time soon.
You need to coach me a little bit before I dare ;D

You have to do what feel right FOR YOU darling! Noone else (not me either) can say you what to do!;)I can just tell you what I know and speak and write about my story and experience! Love you sweetie;)
