Hello again! You might not believe it but its actually true. For a grasp of things, i wanna go into the background of what i am talking about.

So i came across this video on facebook that titled You will never be happy. To be fair, i dont believe in this bullshit but this is backed by science and i think is worth reading.

What most people tend to do is mistake pleasure for happiness. They both have a fine line between them and are often confused as one another.

Pleasure is a sensation that makes us "feel good". Its short-lived and always wants more. Whereas, Happiness is a feeling of inner satisfaction that doesn't go away easily.

Let us get in a bit of detail here.

Remember hitting a bong of marijuana or opening a bottle of wine or watching yourself getting likes on your pictures on instagram(YES! This too). All the above mentioned things release an neural enzyme in the brain called Dopamine which makes us feel good. Its a reward based system. Its short lived(you only feel that way when your brain is releasing it). Our body makes a resistance of dopamine and craves for more(The reason why people turn to become compulsive drinkers because a normal amount of alcohol isn't enough for them to create a buzz)

On the other hand, Happiness is a feeling of satisfaction. It can be gained from reaching life goals, taking up new experiences, making friends, finding the love of your life. Its not reward based. It doesn't crave for more. This is the reason we see some people happy even when life is kicking them in the balls. The reason behind this is all the above mentioned activities release and enzyme called serotonin in your brain. Its perfectly healthy and is good in the long run.

Until now, we established and talked about two enzymes-Dopamine & Serotonin

If i was reading this for the first time, an immediate question in my mind would be "why cant we have both?"Serotonin for happiness & Dopamine to feel good. The answer is YOU CANT.

Recent researches show that the dopamine cells kill the serotonin and hence change your perspective on things. So if you go for short term dopamine shots, There is a fair chance that you might never be happy.

My life has changed a lot after watching that video. I have left all the activities that contribute to dopamine and believe me, It opened my eyes.

I suggest you try it too.

see ya!
