People don't really think about how important physical therapy is after an injury and/or surgery. A friend and I both broke our ankles at the same time and had close to the same injuries. Both of us had to have surgeries that required pins and casts. I went to therapy while in the cast, she did not.
When the time came to get the casts off, we were just days apart. I continued a major two hours a day three times a week, and she did as well. I went all the way through the 12 weeks and was out hiking three miles by the end, but my friend quit after two weeks saying "it is just too hard." Now I have no issues with the ankle and am still hiking. This is not so for my friend.
She walks on the side of her foot and cries about the pain it has caused, not just in the ankle, but to her hip and back. She has gained so much weight from inactivity (hurts too much to do much of anything) and they told her the other day that they would have to do major surgery to fix the issue.
When you are not willing to do the work to "fix" yourself, do not expect there to be a magic pill. You just have to do the work or suffer the consequiences. That is why the physio is so important!
Sorry... I just couldn't stop.
