If Millennials Made the Rules in Healthcare

Millennials are now the largest age demographic in American population - their desires are our priorities. Unfortunate for millennials, and everyone’s general wellbeing, the number of uninsured millennials is rising. For those with health coverage - 54% of millennials would avoid seeing a doctor to save money. Saying this, younger generations need different healthcare - a system with lower costs and an emphasis on customer service to name a couple. Consumer retention among healthcare providers can improve from implementing the requests of millennials, as well.

So what would this look like?

Exactly what was previously mentioned. With lower costs, for example. Providing patients with upfront price estimates would be ideal. 84% of Millennials and Gen Z ask for price estimates before agreeing to treatment, anyway - however, only half of upfront estimates are accurate. With this, having knowledgeable service representatives would help patients know what their policy covers, and what isn’t, without unnecessary estimates.

In addition to this, the ideal future for health care (in the eyes of younger generations) would feature more digital communication to match the era of time we live in. More than half of patients would prefer for their provider to offer text, email, and videoconferencing communication. Also, 74% of patients prefer the ability to book appointments and pay bills online.

As of 2017, less than half of millennials felt supported by their healthcare provider. As a result, millennials are desperate for more personal, and cheaper, healthcare experiences in the future. Read more on the desired future of health insurance below.
