If I were to say to you - my goal is to live an unhealthy life and die at a young age of maybe 45 or 50. What would you make of me? Wouldn't you think me a lunatic? Of course you would and the reason is because every rational being like yourself, wishes to live a healthy and long life. Or don't you?

However, unknowingly to us, we plan on “kicking the bucket” early due to the unhealthy lifestyle we lead. How? You might ask. Well, the average adult today (which includes you and I) is too busy trying to meet the demands of today's fast paced society that the self control over how we wish our bodies to be healthy in the course of our lifetime is lost to the rigours of trying to make a living.

So, how can you boost your longevity? The basic ingredients you need for living a healthy and long life is for you to make healthy choices, your lifestyle. Without further ado, let's take a look at 4 easy ways you can maintain a healthy life that will enhance your longevity.

  1. Create time for exercising

It's now common fact that exercise plays a key role for anyone who wishes to stay healthy. Studies have shown that people who exercise regularly stand a better chance of leading a healthy life and thus, better longevity than those who don't. To stay healthy, it is therefore recommended that you get 30 minutes of active exercise daily. But for those who are too busy to incorporate 30 minutes of exercise into their schedule from Mondays- Fridays, then 150 minutes of active exercise during the weekend should compensate.

  1. Drink lots of water

Show me a person who doesn't drink lots of water, and I will show you a person who is often dehydrated and that means such a person is leading an unhealthy life. Health experts recommend healthy adults should take between 6-8 glasses of water each day and that excludes taking tea, coffee etc. You stand to feel better and more energized to go about your daily activities doing so.

  1. Sleep Between 6-7 hours Every Night

Sleeping is a great way for our bodies to recover from stress and we all know that one way or the other we encounter stress in our day to day life. So, the importance of getting a good amount of sleep cannot be overemphasized. Sleeping for at least 6 hours per day is therefore recommended by experts for most healthy people to maintain a healthy life and increase their chances of living long.

  1. Eat Fruits and Vegetables

Eating as much food as possible per day without complementing with enough fruits is very common within the African society and in most parts of the world. If that's your habit, then I hate to break the news to you that you are simply planning to live a short life. And that's because consuming little amount of fruits has a cumulative harmful effect on your overall health. So why not do yourself the world of good by increasing the rate at which you consume fruits.
