After spending 2 years in this heritage city I think I should write some cool stuff about it. Where all were busy in celebrating Kite Flying , I ended up doing this.
I don’t know where to start and what to write because words are not enough to describe this fantastic city. You can find all the interesting things over here. This city has taught me how to live life to its fullest.
The city is totally filled with the sweetest people in the country I must say. If you help them once, they will remember that and help you ten or more time. I still remember that early morning when I had to catch my bus and I was already late and was waiting for an auto. I tried all the possible ways like ola, uber but couldn’t find ride. At last one lady came and offered me lift in her car, I hadn’t even asked for her help. From the Chaiwala to the Cab driver , everyone can make the best conversation with your group. I have never faced any situation here, where I thought “ What kinda people are they!?”. It’s a very safe city. I can surely say that woman can wander fearlessly even at night.
One thing I must say , Amdavadis are crazy for food. You will find thousands of delicious food items over here. Whether it is Monday or Sunday it doesn’t matter to them, they just want to eat their favorite foods. Every day they come up with new innovative food items and people enjoy it. This city has made me a foodie, too. I never miss out to try some new things. I prepare list of such food items and explore it on weekends.
One interesting and amazing thing about Ahmedabad is that you will find dozens of events going around. People are so active and enthusiastic. You will definitely learn and enjoy by participating in these type of events. Events like Food festival , Kite festival , Flower show , Marathon by cycles , Book fair , Entrepreneur programs , Sangeet nights , Heritage walks and many more.
I am not from Ahmedabad but it feels like home here. Unlike Mumbai , Bangalore , Delhi ; life is slow here. You have more time to chill out with friends. My favorite time is to sit on S.G highway in winter with friends.
Now let’s talk about how people over here celebrating all the festivals. The different fairs & festivals of Ahmedabad enable the locals as well as tourists to catch glimpses of the diverse cultural traditions of Gujarat. The festival of Navratri is celebrated with excitement , where people fully enjoy playing garba and dandiya. How can I forget about International Kite Festival , where colorful kites soar to the sky .The number of kites flying in the sky of Ahmedabad is more than the kites flying anywhere in the world. At night , people fly kites with Tukkal (you can say paper lamp) attached to it.These are the special festivals of Ahmedabad.
Places to be visited in the Heritage City :-
Sabarmati Riverfront :
If you get frustrated or feel down and want some peace then riverfront is for you. It is perfect for a leisurely walk or cycling or just sit n watch the river flowing. There are few gardens at certain spots which are favorite of the locals to spend time with family. There are some boating facilities one can enjoy. They are providing cycles on rent. One of my favorite stuff to do is early morning cycling on weekends. Night view of riverfront is pleasant.
Law Garden Market :
Law Garden, a lush garden in the middle of a hustle city. It’s a true paradise for shopaholics. It’s also an attractive place for morning walks. The garden is famous for its own market , which sells numerous handicrafts items such as cane items, wooden items, traditional Indian clothes and others. Foreigners usually visit the market for the Indian handicrafts sold here by the local people. You can bargain with a sharp tongue and end up with bags full of dresses , chaniyacholis , accessories , ornaments and much more. Prices are reasonable over there. I must say don’t miss out to visit this market.
Manek Chowk :
By hearing its name only my mouth starts watering. It’s a street food market. However, it is in the night when the area truly comes alive and transforms itself into a Street Food Market. Supplying of the food starts around 8:00 pm and goes on till 2:00 pm. Believe me all the food items are delicious. Specially don’t forget to try gwalia dosa and pineapple sandwich. If you go to ahmedabad and not eat the street food, I can say your trip is certainly incomplete.
Adalaj Step well :
It is 20 km far from the ahmedabad city. Adalaj Vav is the finest example of Indo-Islamic architecture. What makes this step-well the most beautiful among other is its series of platforms and galleries built on the side of the stepwell.
Kankaria lake :
Kankaria lake has been an evergreen outing place for the people of Ahmedabad. It has balloon safari , zoo , amusement park, water rides , archery , gymnastics , aquarium and boating. The week long Kankaria Carnival is the most awaited festival of Ahmedabad which is very entertaining and amazing. The entry fee is very nominal.
Teen Darwaza :
I haven’t been here, it’s on my list. Umm I don’t have much idea about it. I read about it and came to know that it is one of the longest as well as the oldest gateways of the Ahmedabad city. The great Mughal emperor Jahangir used to come here along with his beloved wife Noorjahan, to take a look at the procession that started from this grand gateway and went nonstop till Jama Masjid. The walls and pillars of Teen Darwaza are beautifully designed.
H.L College Road :
How can I forget my savior ! Yes, whenever I get bored by eating pg food I use to go there and order my favorite frankie. There are string of laaries (Stalls) containing Frankie , Pasta , Crunch , Maggi ,Parathas and BBQ. Tadka Maggi, Cheese Maggi, Manchurian Frankie, BBQ Frankie are must-eats. Mollify your tummy later with the cool HL Special Cold-Coco after your meal.
