Today's hike is located in Hawaii on the island of Oahu. The hike starts out in the Keaiwa Heiau State Recreation Area just outside the town of Aiea. The trail is not hard to find and is located at the top of the hill where there is a parking lot. The trail is a giant loop and spans a total of 4.8 miles. While 5 miles might be a long hike, it is not difficult with the trail being mainly flat except in certain locations.
The trail will take you through wooded jungles and around a valley giving you scenic views on both sides of the trail. While the path is dirt, there are a lot of roots at times which add difficult terrain at times.
As you continue along the path you will see views of the valley and the surrounding areas.
As you near the halfway point that is where the amazing views are. The views span the entire valley and if you catch it on a good day you can see the rest of the island and mountain ranges behind them. The highway cutting through the middle of the valley is the H3 and while it took away from the nature aspect of the view it added an interesting aspect to it.
This view alone makes this hike worth it as it was one of those views you can sit down for hours and take it all in.
We visited Hawaii for the first time almost a year ago. We only had a couple of days on Oahu so the only hike we got to do was Diamond Head. That was OK, but crowded. This looks like a beautiful area.
Yeah Diamond head is a bit touristy yet it still offers great views. This area was beautiful yet off the beaten track and well away from most touristy areas.
