RE: A Cold Sunday Hike to a Frozen Waterfall

in #hiking7 years ago

Oh yeah, that would be cool to see it thawing out. We used to go to a place in Oklahoma called Turner Falls and it would occasionally freeze over. It was a super fun place to hang out in the summer with a big waterfall when there wasn't a drought. These pics kind of remind me of what that might have looked like - I've seen a pic of it frozen, but never went. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't let people walk out to it frozen though. Lots of rules in that place.

Sort:

They have all sorts of signs placed up about the dangers of swimming near the falls, but nothing about walking out on the ice. As you can see, it was pretty sturdy, though. I really didn't think twice about walking out on the ice. Now that I think about it, I suppose it is a bit risky.

Oh well, it was worth the experience. I'll have to check out Turner Falls. There are so many beautiful waterfalls across the United States. I've seen so many just in NC and VA where I've lived.
