We started the day inside with ipads, tv and newspaper. The weather outside was quite depressing, but the longer we stayed inside the more depressing it became on the inside. The kids arguing over ipads and the youngest was just grumpy. We had to get out! After lunch we got dressed and aimed for the woods, we drove as far as we could before there was too much snow on the road and parked. The ambiance was already great!
Here we are walking into the woods.
A sign showing direction to a cabin owned by DNT (The Norwegian Trekking Association).
Since we are members of DNT and have a key, this was the destination for our little hike.
We locked ourselves in, the boys arguing a bit about who was going to do it.
Well inside we lit candles and made up fire. The kids explored the tiny cabin.
In a cupboard the kids found some domino to play with.
We then enjoyed some hot drinks, coffee for the parents, blackcurrant toddy for the kids. We also had some nuts and biscuits while I was reading out load a story from Donald Duck.
Family selfie.
Then it was time for us to return back home. We cleaned up and locked the cabin and started the hike back.
We will definitely return, next time so we can spend the night. I love the possibilities the cabins owned by The Norwegian Trekking association gives us!
Thanks for reading!

And thats why children in Scandinavia have the best childhood in the world. They have parents who bring them outside! Great job mum @helenmunch
Thanks a lot! Exploring nature does not only result in happy kids, but also happy parents😊
So true! I hope when the time is there, I'll be as good as you are in being a parent.
If you like being out in the nature I think it will come naturally. Doing things in the pace of the kids, looking at the things they discovers with their eyes. It's a lot of fun! I think you'll do good :)
Looks like a nice way of spending a day off! Better than inside with Ipads for sure! Cool mugs! Are those part of the cabin?
How does it work with the DNT cabins? The key you have is specific to this cabin, or do they fit on multiple cabin locks? Also, do you have to reserve somehow the cabins even if they don't have service? Lots of questions I realize :)
Thanks! The mugs are ours, every family member has one, and the names are burned into it.
I am a DNT member and made a nok 100 deposit for a universal key fitting all DNT cabins. Here is their info site in English and you can learn all about it. https://english.dnt.no/ The policy is that there will be room for you no matter what, in for instance Easter it can be cramped but usually there are always enough beds. There are different kinds of cabins: staff lodges, self-service (has food storage you can take food from) and no service (you must bring everything you need. Check out the link, it's pretty awesome and a great way to discover the Norwegian nature! :)
Det så ut som skikkelig hyttekos! Så bra dere fikk utnyttet fridagen! :)
Ja, veldig koselig og så utrolig fint og godt når man endelig kommer seg ut av døra. Får veldig fort brakkesjuken hvis ikke... Ser ut som du er glad i å være ute også da, det er bra. :)
