Wonder how a perfect day for hiking looks like? Look no further cause here it is:
Bright sunny and windless yet not too hot. As good as it gets in other words so time to hike up to the top of a hill hosting interesting pieces of history (anything but surprising in Greece).
Some say that this is where Bon Scott got inspired for "it's a long way to the top":
Worth the effort going up,
as it gives you the chance to enjoy the contrast between the blue sky and the rather dry post summer land,
as well as the view to the sea despite the far from scenic local power plant:
And we're still halfway. The road ahead offers more viewpoints,
and I don't miss a single chance:
First real stop before the top is necessary for this grave that dates back to 1500 BC:
It's interesting to see how back in the days of Mycenaean civilisation they used to make this style of tombs. This spot gives a different but still nice viewing angle to the bay with the power plant,
but also view to the other side of the sea looking South:
The thing with a view like this is that due to the marine traffic and the calm sea that keeps the vessel's trails for long you can take images from the very same spot in the very same moment and still not feel like deleting them as duplicates:
Some more blue sky contrast again:
And a couple more of the grave:
Time to make it to the top. Not such a long way anymore:
Before walking around the local pre classical cemetery there let me show you the aftermath of this summer's wildfires:
The now black area on the top is what we lost during the previous month. Fortunately the hill we're walking at the moment stayed unharmed and allowed me black free pictures:
Here's the first grave one meets there:
It's among the medium sized ones and looks neglected if nothing else like most of them. Here's some of the rest with the biggest of them all lying on the top of that hill:
Same but a bit closer:
Some of the graves are barely recognisable like this one:
The view remains impressive:
Time to have a closer look to the largest grave:
As you can see it's also in poor condition and the old efforts of support have been challenges by nature over the years. I have no idea who was burried there but I am sure he still enjoys the view if he/she's around:
The size difference with some of the other graves around is obvious:
A walk around the previous "big guy" shows that there is a stone wall surrounding the grave's hill that today is buried in dirt and requires excavation to get closer to its previous grace:
Just in case you might be twisted enough to find the perfect blue of the sky kinda tiresome here's a plane and a few clouds to make it up to you:
And when all is seen it's time to make it all the way down:
To match a beautiful day like this a proper dinner must follow at night. When was it the last time you tried a double taste pizza? The adorable staff kindly offered me to do one!
It's so beautiful. Those are very interesting graves! Do you know how old they are? That sky! I have been to the Mediterranean although not to Greece, and there is nothing like the blue of the sky there. The ocean is so beautiful also, power plant or not.
Is it warm enough to swim in it?
That pizza looks delicious. What a great end to the hike! Thank you for anothet gorgeous photo essay!
As I mentioned they're from 1500 BC. Rather old eh? 🙂
Sea is still warm. Takes long for water to change temperature.
I want to thank you for stopping by - see you on the next one :)

Such a beautiful country Greece is, and the craftmanship put into building the graves goes to show how much regard they had/have for the departed. Wonderful images!!
That's my thoughts as well. I'm happy you liked them too.
so much similarity with the Sardinian scenery
True. Sicily and Sardinia look very much like Greece. Here's my days around Sardinia:
