My first time in Norway I visited a friend in Tromsø, a small Norwegian town north of the polar circle!
It was the end May, so it didn't get dark at all any more, the sun just dipped below the horizon for an hour or so, to come back up again. This makes for incredibly long sunsets, in a redish color I haven't seen before...
But since we were here, of course we had to witness the midnight sun as well! So we hiked up a nearby mountain, from which the sun would not go below the horizon. We started at about 8pm, in a group of several people, to a tiny hut on the mountaintop.
At the end the ascent through the snow got quite steep, but on the summit, coming out of the shadow of the mountain, we got rewarded by a spectacular view of the midnight sun!
The hut we stayed (and had a few drinks) in:
Sliding and hiking back down in the early morning was a lot of fun as well!
Since we did not sleep at all, when we got back home, everyone was sooo exhausted...definitely more then worth it though! Incredible experience in the beautiful beautiful Norway :)
Looks fantastic :)
It was :)
