I’ve been having almost 2 years of long distance relationship with someone who is working about 10.253 miles away from home and me. Far enough right? Of course.
It’s always been a hard time once he has to go back to work, even days are not enough to spend together and tears always accompany his leaving to work. We have been separated by distance and time, especially 13 hours time differentiation between home time zone and his working time zone sometimes drives me crazy. Having an am-pm life for both of us caused less talk between us. Somehow he has to work, sleep, socialize with people etc definitely make us have a limitation of our “us time” and get to know him better whether through voice call or video call.
Questions that keep popping up in my mind are: do I even know him for all this time? who the hell the guy I love is? Is him loyal enough for me? There is no choice except to save all those questions until the time he is home.
The times has its own answer, yes it is. During his vacation, he invited me to join him to hike a mountain for days. It was Rinjani Mountain, a magnificent, big yet high mountain located in Lombok Indonesia. I wasn’t so sure at the beginning but still had a desire to hike and spend my time with him instead of waiting for him to come back after his trekking. And we decided to track a mountain without porter and guide. At first, I was afraid we might get lost and can never be found. But he made me sure that we can make it.
He definitely showed up his passion of nature, teach me how to survive in nature, how to enjoy solitude, how to enjoy silence, the way he socializes new people he meets, his compromisation to solve problems we faced, things I had never known before. Questions that keep popping up in my mind finally answered because of 24 hours 7 days of togetherness in nature. Ever since he brought me into a girl who loves to explore nature more. Some articles I read in books or online said so and perhaps it is considered less of research stated hiking can affect your relationship but I encountered those experiences.
I’m definitely gonna hiking more often because hiking makes you know yet understand someone you loved better.
