Hip Hop or Trap

HIP HOP, GRIME and TRAP are DIFFERENT GENRES. RAP is NOT a Genre. Rap is just something you do, like singing. HIP HOP, GRIME and Trap all involve RAPPING but are completely different. . Just like how Rock and Soul both contain SINGING but are different genres.

FEATURES OF HIP HOP:

around 90 bpm, usually a sample-based, or sample inspired beat. subject matter is diverse, includes violence, aggression, love, conscience, politics, drugs, but most notably MC culture and perseverance.

Hip Hop music is part of the hip hop culture of the 70s, Hip Hop music goes along with grafting, break dancing, rap battles. Originated in the Bronx NY.

SUB GENRES of HIP HOP

Gangster rap , alternative hip hop, jazz hip hop , g funk , trip hop, old school hip hop, R & B Hip Hop, conscience rap.

FEATURES OF TRAP:

115–170 bpm but usually somewhere in the middle. Subject matter is focused around drug dealing, drugs, murder , streets, and violence. electronic/synth based beats, snare and hi hat rolls, rappers often adopt triplet flows. Originated in Memphis in the early 90s. the only link it has to hip hop is the fact they both involve rapping.

SUB GENRES of TRAP

Atlanta trap, Cloud Rap, Memphis Rap, Mumble Rap, is also related to ganster rap and g funk.

FEATURES OF GRIME/GARAGE

Basically rapping over dance music. Tempo usually around 140. Electronic and sample inspired beats often featuring brass and a heavy bass. Originated in the UK in the late 90s. evolved from and is related to Drum and Bass, Jungle, House, Dubstep.

anyway,

Can we Please, Please agree that just if two music styles involve rapping that doesn’t categorise them as the same genre.

I’m sure the world would riot if I said Beyonce was a Rock artist just because she sang.
