Hello everyone, after a long time I finally write again.
Today I will write about battle of Kursk. This was the biggest military battle in the whole history. It happened in 1943 beetwen Nazi's and Soviet army. This was one of the biggest victories for allies in World War II. This „summer battle“ lasted over a month. Kursk is a city on the west of Russia near the Ukraine border.
This battle took place within Barbarossa operation (plan of this operation was to conquer and destroy USSR).
In this battle were involved about two milion soldiers, over 6 thousand tanks and over 4 thousand planes. The most famous commander in this battle was Georgij Žukov who was number one of Soviet commanders in war.

A few months before the battle, the Nazis were near the conquest of Moscow but they were quite indecisive and Soviet army re-amplified and started counter stike.
In the battle Soviets had more soldiers, tanks and planes but they were much worse than the Nazis army. The battle began with the Nazis offensive commanded by Erich von Manstein and they went very well, they defied Soviet defence but after a couple of weeks Germans machines began to ruin.

After that, there was a decisive duel at the place called Prokhorovka.
That was the biggest tank battle ever in which the Nazis had Panzer tanks and Soviets had T-34 tanks. Nazis tanks were much better and stronger but T-34 is really fast tank and that was the key in which the Soviets secure the victory. This two sides lost the same number of tanks but Soviet army was bigger and they had much more tanks.

At the same time, Allies started their offence on the Sicily and therefore the Nazis had to withdraw from Ukraine and Russia.
About 150 000 soldiers were killed in the battle and about 4 thousand tanks and planes were destroyed.
Although Soviet army won this battle, they lost more soldiers, tanks and planes. However, this was one of the biggest victories of Soviets in whole World War II because the Nazis never again had offensive on USSR teritory.
This was a short post about this battle, if you are interested in something more about this battle I recommend this video that describes the subject in detail.
