In late 1930s, the constructions was held by Soviets in my city - Tbilisi, capital of Georgia.
Soviets and Communists, as atheist leaders, didn't respect to any kinds of spirituality or traditions. Thats why you may not be amazed by their actions, but I think, here is something special.
One of the streets of Tbilisi, Queen Tamar's Ave, was created exactly in that time. But during the beginning of constructions, there were cemeteries over this place.
Soviets had problems with building materials and to pave the street sidewall, they used a tombstones.
Now you can still clearly read the names and other epitaphs on the gravestones, with which sides walls are paved.
unfortunately, there was no any essential alteration of street space after this epoch, so the tombstones of unknown people, are still sticked on the wall.
