It sure looks easier than when my grandfather was a kid and used to go down to the railroad tracks and pick up coal that had fallen off the cars to heat the house with.

That egg one is interesting, too. I wonder what the units were... I've seen that 2'6 to represent 2.6€ in Europe, but that photo was taken before euros were a thing and that would be really expensive for eggs anyway. That machine does look like they just dropped it off in the most random spot they could find.

Howdy sir fotosdenada! I've heard of people gathering coal like that, they must have been really poor or he was really frugal!
Someone said the machine price looked like the old English Shilling symbol but who knows. I'd like to see inside the thing to learn how they cushioned the eggs so they wouldn't break and what kind of packaging they had.
