According to Robert Lacey in his book “The Year 1000: What Life Was Like at the Turn of the First Millenium”, if you met an Englishman from this time period on the road, this is what you would see: a tall, strong, healthy man with good teeth, dressed in a long tunic and leggings, and who was invariably young. It wasn't until the later Middle Ages that overpopulation affected the diet and health of Europeans. They were generally healthy because nine out of ten of them lived in the unpolluted countryside, with access to fresh air, wholesome food, and outdoor work. They were mostly young because life expectancy was 30 years old from childhood. If you survived past age 21, than that number would be 45- 60 years. Skull measurements show that the brain capacity of a man of this period was exactly the same as our own. They were skillful with their hands, memorize and recalled a ton of information, sturdy and practical, with some room for the supernatural
