This is an artsy shot of rush hour on Hollywood Boulevard, circa 1934. It appears we're looking west from about Vine Street. If nothing else, this photograph proves traffic jams are nothing new in southern California. Note the schmuck trying to push his way into the eastbound lanes while messing up the westbound traffic.
It is entirely possible some of these vehicles are still there. Either that or the City of LA just paved over the cars and started from scratch again.
Also of note in this photo are the 1932 Hollywood Boulevard Christmas decorations. The marquee sticking up through the exhaust haze on the right side of the image belongs to the Pantages Theater.
