Today was the official start of our tour, a world wind tour of the new and old city....today for me was about the food. I love food, the history of food and how cultures celebrate it. image India with its cacophony of religious culture is really at the heart of this history. It doesn’t take long to realise that India’s food culture is heavily influenced by religion. The food here is incredible. I love the respect Indians have for their ancient food methods, staying true to techniques handed down to them, unchanged. The meticulous detail in its preparation and pride they have in sharing food with family and friends. The spice market today was a delight to the senses.
The colours of India were on show, everywhere. From the vivid mountains of spice , to the textures of dates, lentils and betal leaves. You were intoxicated by the activity of the ancient market in Katra Pedan. Unable to hear your self think over the bartering of shoppers and repetitive melody of horns, all the while trying to stay alert to the constant risk of injury from passing scooters and rickshaws. Diwali preparations in the market were spectacular, spiritual and the connection of the food is central to that. I love it here, Delhi is like a leap back I time, where the ancient is preserved and food is an obsession.
