Recently I and my girlfriend visited Sofia History Museum. Although I grew up in Sofia I had never visited that museum before. The beautiful building was a public bath built in 1913 and had been closed for visitors and under maintenance for many years.
Before at that place there was a Turkish bath but it had been destroyed.
Currently there is no bath there and the building is operating as a museum.
It was designed in Secession style with typical Bulgarian, Byzantine and East Orthodox ornamental elements.
I couldn’t take a good shot of the building and it’s more beautiful when you see it for yourself.
There are various belongings to Bulgarian royal families and also other families from 19th to early 20th century like apparel, tableware of precious metals and home furniture.
There is also a beautiful carriage. There you can hear a story of Bulgarian royal couple arriving in a beautiful carriage that has been possessed by Marie Antoinette before but I couldn’t find if it’s the same carriage like the one that is currently exposed in the museum.
Often it’s not permitted to get photos in museums but here the staff seem didn’t mind.
