The newest stores were approximately 15,000 square feet (1,400 m 2 ), compared with 10,000 square feet (900 m 2 ) to get Gap Warehouse shops ) On March 11, 1994, that the very first Old Navy locations opened at the northern California towns of Colma, San Leandro and Pittsburgh Based on Kevin Lonergan, Gap's manager of stores, Old Navy stores had been deliberately built for example food markets, together with aisles that were flowing, shopping carts, and compact impulse items close to the checkout counters.

The concrete flooring, metal drawers, and checkout counters assembled from glistening vanity and metal gave the stores the industrial warehouse texture, whereas the vibrant arrangements and also a high quantity of workers working place it aside from additional reduction clothing stores. After this season, 42 other Old Navy shop started, & a lot of those 4 5 Gap Warehouse stores were renamed Old Navy.

The merchant originally opened with only 3 stores in California. Over a couple of decades, it'd a lot more than 130 stores throughout the USA. Store layouts featured a lean"industrial" appearance with concrete floors, exposed piping, and chrome clothing stands. Old Navy began a run of quirky memorable promotional initiatives in 1997 that featured actors and usually spoofed current favorite entertainment.

The retail giant faltered with low earnings in 2000, but quickly rebounded in 2001 with global growth, starting shop locations in Canada.
