History - A Fascinating Subject | Filled With Bravery, Romance and Teachings

in #history7 years ago (edited)

From childhood, I've been mesmerized by the study of history. And I find it fascinating because of several reasons:

  • you get to learn in detail about the epic and extraordinary lives of legendary figures

  • the inspirational biographies of famous people who've made this world a better place to live in provide several valuable lessons

All Historical figures have achieved great things, lived great lives and the positive aspects of their existence certainly provides a befitting example for us as well as for young children to follow.

Personal Connect

Another reason for my attraction towards history was that my Mom was a history teacher, oddly enough in the same school where I was educated.

She was certainly one of the finest in her field, something which her past students settled all over the world will vouch for.

Learning

In my quest to know more and more, I discovered a wealth of information for my consumption.

And I gained tremendous wisdom and knowledge from several of the interesting historical stories, like,

  • Rana Pratap Singh

The ruler of Chittor was brave and fearless even as a child. He is a legend - a great symbol of Rajput valor and gallantry.

  • Prithviraj Chauhan

A famous king in his times, one cannot get over the great romance between Prithviraj Chauhan and Samyukta. It is written Samyukta was a tall, graceful, lovely princess and her large eyes were like a black bee moving across the petals of a white lotus (that's one heck of a description). Prithviraj was in love with Samyukta - who was the enemy's daughter. On the day of swayamvar, when she was to pick a husband, Prithviraj came in a horse, lifted Samyukta in his strong arms and galloped away. A thrilling story in the life of ruler who fought and won several thrilling battles.

  • Akbar

Known for his liberal attitude and bureaucratic prowess, he was a wise and able rulers who was also referred as 'Akbar - The Great'. Many architectural masterpieces were built under his rule.

Oh, and not to forget

  • Harsha

An ancient ruler belonging to Vardhana dynasty.

Hiuen Tsang, the Chinese traveler had praised him as a benevolent and able ruler.

Courage, Bravery and Romance

History bears witness to several brave and courageous acts. Indian history is no different.

Many rulers fought valiantly, several kings gave up their lives for their kingdom and for the sake of their love/subjects.

The feat of Queen of Jhansi, Lakshmi Bai is unparalleled in history. She lit the torch of freedom against colonial rule in India. No Indian can ever forget her valor, and she refused to surrender till the end.

How can we ever forget Shah Jahan and the symbol of love he left behind for the world to witness. He built the Taj Mahal, which is considered as one of the wonders of the world.
