Kupiah meukeutop is one of the symbols or icons that symbolize the characteristic of Aceh. If anyone sees kupiah meukeutop either directly or from the picture must know right away if kupiah meukeutop this is a typical craft of Aceh. Formerly during the Dutch colonial period, this kupiah meukeutop called Kupiah Tungkop, this is now more known in the kupiah with Meukeutop. But there are still some people who call it kungkungkungk, especially people tungkop and neighbors around tampop gampong. This kupiah meukeutop comes from the settlement of Tungkop or more detail in the village of Rawa Tungkop Indrajaya District Pidie District which was first made by Sapiah grandmother in the Dutch era first.

According to the story of parents here, in the days of Dutch colonialism is often there are Dutch people who come to visit the house Sekah Nek to see, take pictures of kungkung tungkop and aceh house almarhumah nek Sapiah home. In Rawa Tungkop now has been formed one studio namely Sanggar Kupiah Meukeutop which is chaired by Kak Mah. This studio has been established several years ago. With the establishment of this studio already many who know about the making of this rupiah, even a few years ago the father of governor Irwandi Yusuf / Wife and his entourage visited the village of Rawa Tungkop to see, appreciate, even buy works by hand from this kupiah Meukeutop.
