Yesterday evening, a couple of friends and I got together to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. This is a holiday celebrated by the Chinese, Taiwanese, Korean, and Vietnamese people. Traditionally, this festival is celebrated on a full moon when the moon is bright and round. The moon symbolizes togetherness and reunion. Family and friends will gather to celebrate the holiday together and give thanks for the harvest. Technically, tonight is Mid-Autumn Festival, but one of our friends had to leave for a flight today, so we just moved it up!
On Mid-Autumn Festival, it is tradition to each moon cakes which can be filled with red bean paste or lotus paste. Traditionally these cakes will have imprints on top containing characters that say "harmony" or "longevity."
To celebrate, @muffintuesday @kkshe.writes and I decided to make hot pot together.
We put carrots, lettuce, bok choy, meat, fish cakes, noodles and mushrooms in our hot pot. I always love eating hot pot because it is such an interactive meal and you can pretty much put whatever you want in the hot pot!
It was such a fun way to spend our evening! I hope you learned something new about Mid-Autumn Festival.
Love,
Karen
