Good read but just some clarification, It was not due to De Valera's American heritage that saved him from being executed. I recently went on a tour of Kilmainham jail and the tour guide actually debunked this common myth. Another person (can't remember his name) also had American heritage but was killed anyway. Thanks for the link, good read. Still think it 'may' of been a contributing factor, but there seems to be no evidence for that. Had known about the other mitigating circumstances but hadn't realised that the citizenship was not a major factor, thanks.
oh also good to see more irish on here
