Abraham Lincoln is the 16th President of the United States. He was born in Hardin Country, Kentucky, on February 12, 1809 and died in Washington DC on April 15, 1865. In his career he was known as a figure who maintained the unity of the nation by abolishing slavery in the United States.
Little Lincoln is just the son of a carpenter. Her mother died when she was little. When the father remarried, Lincoln was taken care of by his stepmother to adulthood. Lincoln's populist soul appeared in adolescence, then in 1828, he rented a freight boat to carry cargo to New Orleans. It was there that he first witnessed slavery, he then promised himself that one day he would abolish the practice of slavery.
Although no formal education, due to self-taught, Abraham Lincoln who likes to read in the end managed to become a lawyer. Early in his career, he had met and established a relationship with a woman named Anne Rutledge. It was from Anne Rutledge's father who suggested Lincoln to go into politics.
The tattoo did not take long, in 1834, Abraham Lincoln was elected to the Illinois regional parliament. Then elected in 1838 and 1840. At this time, he met Mary Owens and married her in 1841. A year of their marriage, Lincoln opened a firm with a friend named William H. Herndon.
Abraham Lincoln's career was halted by being elected as a congressman in 1846. But because he proposed legislation to end slavery in Columbia's Columbia, his membership was not renewed. Lincoln was disappointed, he stopped his political activities for some time and refocused on his firm.
In 1854, Lincoln returned to the political world because the issue of slavery in the country again warmed up. At that time the American society split into two, the northern region against slavery while the southern region supported slavery. He also struggled to win a seat in the US senate, but in the first round he was outclassed by Stephen Douglas who supported slavery.
Abraham Lincoln did not give up, in fact in May 1860, he was elected as a Republican presidential candidate. And after the election, on March 4, 1861, he officially won the election and was elected President of the United States 16th. Unfortunately, however, this was the beginning of a civil war in the United States because four days after Abraham Lincoln became president, the southern state was emerging from the United States Federation. The split, then culminating in the cause of civil war in the United States from 1861-1865.
In mid-civil war, President Abraham Lincoln issued the Proclamation of Liberation by declaring all young slaves in the states or states of states against the United States to be free from 1 January 1863. The proclamation sparked the zeal of all those who fought for freedom and being a driver toward the abolition of slavery throughout the United States.
Amid the victory of the United States (North) military at the end of the civil war, Abraham Lincoln was re-elected in 1864 to become president. However, a year later on April 18, 1865, when the United States had entered a period of peace, President Abraham Lincoln was shot while watching the Ford theater, Washington. He was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment, but the next day his life could not be saved.
