During Esigie's reign,the Portuguese(Ikpotokin) established diplomatic relationship with Benin. Some chiefs were encouraged to become Christians and worship centres were established in the city.

During the Idah war of 1515-1516,instigated by Chief Oliha, the Portuguese were of great help to the Oba.
His mother's name was Idiaghe(Idia).

Troops from Uselu, her domain were of great help during the war.
Idia was a native of Ugieghudu in Uhumwode Local Government Area.

AZENZUA THE FIRST 1713
One remarkable thing about the reign of Akenzua 1 was the peace and tranquility that prevailed during his reign.

He was reputed to be one of the richest Oba to have sat on the throne. He was so rich that he was nicknamed Akenzua NI SO NO RO meaning Akenzua the raining sky. He made one of his Sons as the first Obi of Isele-Uku.
