The last of the gun cruiser's in active service. The Almirante was retired recently from the Peruvian Navy in late 2017. While her main armament was supplemented by Otomat ship to ship missile system, this ship was designed around her Bofors 152 mm kanon m/42 (6") gun system.
Purchased second hand from the Netherland's, the Almirante Grau had a long service in the Peruvian Navy from 1973 to 2017. She served as the flagship for the Peruvian Naval forces and acted as a nerve center for command and control for lesser surface combatants.
She was classed as a light cruiser, but like other big gun ships of her era, she had traditional armor, unlike modern warships which depend on kevlar and other ballistic materials.
Armor:
50-76 mm belt
50-125 mm turrets
50-125 mm conning tower
