RE: A brief history of bass guitar virtuosity...

in #history8 years ago

I wonder about that sometimes. I am checking out this website www.studybass.com at the moment. The teacher on there says bass is "weird" but in a good way. What is looping? That teacher says the best approach is to first become an artist/musician or see yourself as an artist and then see your electric bass instrument as merely a way of expressing your art.

Sort:

Looping is using digital effects to make tracks to play over. Bass is just a means to make music. It can have a very 'vocal' sound. It's up to the artist to make it work musically.

OK I see... I think I may have heard that before...

Steve Lawson is a master of looping, but lots of others do it too

Cool...how does he do that?

He uses gear from Looperlative. There are cheaper versions. I have a couple of devices that can loop in some way. It's handy for practice too. It's basically a digital recorder with more control

OK so you need some kind of special device... how do I get an amplug? do you know maybe?

How did you learn to do it?

I don't do it much. You just play around and see what works, but there are video lessons for everything these days

Nice man!! Why did you get into electric bass in the first place?

I was looking at learning to play bass and found out about some of these guys. I've seen Steve live several times. I don't play bass now, but I still enjoy the music. You have to admire their skills

OK nice why did you get into it?
