Many of you know a legend of forgotten Atlanditya which and remained a beautiful legend. However there are many similar myths and one of them scientists could confirm, having found the lost city.
It is about the city of Geraklion which, according to history, in a night has been wiped out by the strongest earthquake. This story is interesting what it has much in common with a legend of Atlantis which has sunk into a non-existence in few hours. And here, through several thousands of years the city of Geraklion has been officially found!
Ruins of the city are hidden from people by 10-meter thickness of water. There is this place in a bay Aboukir that in 3 kilometers from the Alexandria coast. The first meeting with the lost city has begun with the fact that the French archeologist Frank Godyo, carrying out the first immersion, has found a massive black plate from granite with vygrivirovanny the inscription "Geraklion".
Except a granite stele scientists have found a set of other objects which have kept the primitive state. It is surprising that practically contemporaries don't know of this city, but in the history this place was mentioned very often. For example, Diodor wrote that Heracles has saved residents once, having blocked the Nile Current. Grateful inhabitants called the city in his honor for it and have built the huge temple. Geraklion was the main seaport which is in the mouth of Nile. Citizens were very educated and knew a lot of things about the world known at that time due to regular contact with dealers and travelers.
In the 1st century BC there was the strongest earthquake which has razed the city to the ground. The most part of inhabitants has died under fragments, and survivors escaped, leaving acquired. Ruins of the city were covered by the risen water and it has forever disappeared under sea thickness.
Near city walls scientists have found three big statues from pink granite destroyed during the cataclysm. One of statues has been devoted to Hapi (the deity of a flood of Neil), and two others haven't been identified. In the main temple the tomb which is completely covered with hieroglyphs is located. The top part is strongly damaged because of what it isn't possible to read the text, and the lower part once again proves that archeologists deal with the city of Geraklion.
From under water it was succeeded to get a large number not only cultural monuments, but also thousands of personal belongings of inhabitants: bracelets, rings, earrings, crests for hair, coins. It is surprising that for thousands of years the quality of objects remained almost invariable.
