You can get an original parts kit, semi-auto receiver and build a faithful representation of it (as an SBR or pistol). I know the feel. I grew up in NY and go to school in MD. I'm really thinking of building a STEN mk 2 or 3 from a parts kit since it's not an assault weapon in any state as long as you use a 16'' barrel
