I was wondering as I read this how on earth so many people were convinced that there was treasure inside the rocks that they kept blasting even though the first few thousand had nothing, but seeing the natural ones with the cracks made it make more sense (could totally hide something in cracks) XD
Ahh your stone's throw pun was terrible, maybe they got them part of the way from quarry to building/final site by trebuchet.
