Digging Ancient Trash: personal BTC wallet.dat found

in #history10 hours ago

Greetings, everyone!

Today, I had a bit of nostalgia, and I found an ancient BTC wallet.dat on a hard drive that I had used a long time ago. I started mining in the early days, but all were sold way too early or invested in other coins that did not make it.

I was curious to learn more about this old wallet file, and I could still recall the password - yes, it was encrypted!

The last time the address was used was in 2013, and it was a dried one. But you know, dry in 2013 had a different meaning compared to now.

I loaded the wallet, and I could see the address; 1EqtAeYzU4fU26BwFHFZZF2n3YivA85rVk, with 0.6M satoshi in it.

Once again, this was $0.00 at that time, but today, it would be a nice $650. Fun fact: looking through these old microtransactions, I've seen that once, a fee of $4.8M Sats was paid, which would be worth $5,024.76 today!!

I'm trying to synchronize the wallet and, hopefully, to be able to transfer these coins. But it will take time. Estimated time left until for synced: 31 hours!

I'll keep you posted.

What a nice surprise! hope you get those satoshis!

How fortunate that you found that. I wish I had been aware of BTC at that time.

Good luck, you reminded me about a very old account. Checking for it, I found keys and word sets for some strange wallets: Helim, Electroneum, Ontology, Kusama, Polkadot, EOS, one very old ETH account with 14$ in it, NEO, NXT, ARDOR, and some tokens that died in between 2018-2022. It was funny.
