I recently started sharing songs off of my husband's newly launched album (his first album, in fact). Until now, I've only shared the "love" melodies. Today I want to bring one of his songs with historical significance to your attention.
The song is called "Stander Loan" and is about a notorious South African police man who turned criminal - his name was Andre Stander.
Stander was a captain in the force before he turned rogue and formed a devious plan to rob banks across the country.
He robbed his first bank in 1977 with the help of a gang that he headed. He robbed 30 banks before he was caught and imprisoned in 1980 - all why continuing his role as police captain.
What's significant is that in 1983, Stander escaped from prison and fled to the US. He managed to lie low for a year before he was gunned down in 1984, where he died from gunshot wounds.
Stander also played a role in apartheid and he said his erratic behavior was due to his involvement in the Soweto uprising murders.
Anyway - it was this man's interesting life story that sparked the genius behind this song:
STANDER LOAN - Single Street Park
That song sounds very brutal, I liked it a lot, taking into account the story of the murderous policeman, how good it is to listen to a song knowing why it was created.
