RE: Captured By The Apache: A Treaty Is Made And The Army Stays At The Village

in #history6 years ago

Hello, janton!
Obviously, Apaches were very cunning. Boys were hidden, and Army never got know about they capture white boys. Otherwise I am sure they'd not offer any deal to Apache

Sort:

Howdy today zirochka! Yes many times the Indians captured whites and then gladly traded them for goods or a large ransom but they wanted to keep them this time.

Oh, I did not know they trade them. Sell to another Indians? Don't understand what was the value of white people for them?

Well some Indians gladly ransomed white people, I'm sure some Indians captured whites just to ransom them because most of the time the whites could come up with payments that would make them wealthy. For instance, horses were the most valuable thing to the Indians so if they could get many horses in return for a stolen white kid or woman, then they would be highly regarded. Let me know if that does not make sense.

But yes, they also sometimes traded to other Indians.

I almost understand, but not all. Who bought white people and what for? To sell them to their family? Otherwise it has no sense to me.

Howdy zirochka! The white people bought back their family members from the Indians or would pay someone to buy them back from the Indians. Like in this story if Hermann's parents knew where to find the Indians who took him they would have offered them a herd of horses to buy him off of the Indians and bring him back home.
Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thankyou, janton. Now everything is clear to me
