Hace un tiempo publiqué un post hablando de una de mis comidas callejeras favoritas y una versión Keto qué hice en casa sobre esta, se trata de la arepa cabimera. En esta oportunidad les cuento sobre mi experiencia probando una en un restaurante de feria en mi ciudad.

A while ago I published a post talking about one of my favorite street foods and a Keto version I made at home about it, it is the arepa cabimera. This time I tell you about my experience trying one at a fair restaurant in my city.
Las arepas cabimeras son oriundas de la ciudad de Cabimas. Edo. Zulia (por eso su nombre) de donde es mi familia. Tengo muchos años que no voy para allá y siempre extraño todo lo que me gusta de ese lugar. Por eso trato de mantener cerca sus sabores y recuerdos, esperando muy pronto poder visitar esa ciudad que guarda momentos preciosos de mis vacaciones de infancia y donde gracias a Dios todavía conservo varios familiares.
Arepas cabimeras are native to the city of Cabimas. Edo. Zulia (hence the name) where my family is from. I haven't been there for many years and I always miss everything I like about that place. That's why I try to keep close its flavors and memories, hoping very soon to be able to visit that city that keeps precious moments of my childhood vacations and where thanks to God I still have several relatives.
Desde niña, cada vez que visitaba Cabimas tenía que pasar a comerme una en cualquier puesto donde las vendieran, pero como les acabo de decir, tengo que muchos años sin ir. Entonces he buscado probarlas o en casa o donde se pueda presentar la oportunidad fuera del estado Zulia. Pero lamentablemente aunque todas estas versiones son ricas, nunca saben igual. A veces pienso que el simple hecho de no tener la alegría de los momentos que he vivido comiéndolas propiamente en la ciudad de Cabimas, hacen que no las encuentre tan deliciosas.
Since I was a child, every time I visited Cabimas I had to go to eat one at any stand where they sold them, but as I just told you, I haven't been there for many years. So I have been looking to try them either at home or wherever I can get the opportunity outside the state of Zulia. But unfortunately, although all these versions are delicious, they never taste the same. Sometimes I think that the simple fact of not having the joy of the moments I have lived eating them properly in the city of Cabimas, makes me not find them so delicious.
Mi último intento fue en Mr. George, que es un restaurante de feria que abrieron en un centro comercial de mi ciudad (Maturín. Edo. Monagas) donde venden comida zuliana. En su menú ofrecen los platos más característicos del Estado como son los patacones, los pastelitos, tequeños y mandocas, además de las protagonistas del post, las arepas cabimeras.
My last attempt was at Mr. George, which is a fair restaurant that opened in a shopping mall in my city (Maturín, Monagas State) where they sell Zulian food. In their menu they offer the most characteristic dishes of the state such as patacones, pastelitos, tequeños and mandocas, as well as the protagonists of the post, the arepas cabimeras.
Anteriormente, habíamos probado los tequeños y las mandocas y la verdad estaban muy ricas, nada que envidiarle a las originales del Estado, entonces fue por eso que nos motivamos a probar mi tan querida arepa cabimera.
Previously, we had tried the tequeños and mandocas and the truth is that they were very tasty, nothing to envy to the original ones from the State, so we were motivated to try my beloved arepa cabimera.
Pero desde ya les digo que no estaba mala para quienes nunca la han probado en el Zulia, sin embargo, para mí no era la mejor. La sazón de la carne mechada no se acercaba para nada al sazón cabimero y eso hizo que yo me sintiera bastante decepcionada con el encuentro.
But I can tell you that it was not bad for those who have never tasted it in Zulia, however, for me it was not the best. The seasoning of the carne mechada was nowhere near the cabimero seasoning and that made me feel quite disappointed with the encounter.
Mi papá diría que solo a mí se me ocurre pedir este plato fuera de la ciudad donde lo suelen hacer jajajaja pero yo quería darle la oportunidad de que me pudieran retornar a mis calles cabimeras.
My dad would say that only I could think of ordering this dish outside of the city where they usually make it hahahaha but I wanted to give him the opportunity to return to my streets cabimeras.
Seguiré contando los días hasta poder volver al Zulia y comerme mi tan extrañada arepita cabimera y podrán estar seguros de que no dejaré de compartírselos.
I will continue counting the days until I can return to Zulia and eat my much missed arepita cabimera and you can be sure that I will not fail to share them with you.
