It's Saturday today, which means our fresh produced and pantry staples is yet again restocked. My parents went to the night market and bought kilos of fruits for us.
When my parents buy a surplus amount of fruits, it's usually at a bargain price. Take for example this huge jackfruit. My dad said he bought it for 50 pesos per kilo, which is twice cheaper than in groceries. Now we are blessed to have a month of supply of jackfruit.
Avocadoes. My dad is a huge avocado fan mainly because of its health benefits. It has healthy fats and other vitamins and minerals which believes to be good for hair and skin. Ever since reaching the age of 50, our dad's hair has been delicate so he makes extra care by eating foods good for the hair and skin.
Miracle fruit. I'm not sure if many are familiar with this fruit, but for locals, we call this as "miracle fruit" because it is believe to heal many illness. My mom has been complaining about his poor sleep, so they bought this fruit which could also aid insomnia.
Sweet potato. A staple in our household. When I was in college, I ate boiled sweet potatoes as a substitute for rice. One of the key benefits of this root crop is it's high in fiber- perfect for people who are always constipated.
Banana. Another staple in our household. We almost always eat this fruit after a meal, serving as a dessert to close our cravings. Since all of us are banana eaters, I'm expecting this to be finished in less than a week.
Mangoes. Lastly, tons of mangoes. Considering we just finished a 10 kilo mango last week, my parents bought another huge sum of mangoes because it's already mango season. My brother and I are planning to make some ice candy from these mangoes to beat the heat.
