Una de mis paradas obligatorias cada vez, que frecuento o visito a la ciudad de Maracay es pasar por el puesto ambulante de mi amigo Saúl, el cual cuenta con un trapiche de caña de azúcar.
Les cuento una breve historia o bio de mi amigo Saúl. Saúl Medina nacido en el año 1952 en el poblado de Ospino en el estado Guárico, el cual muchos de sus oficios a lo largo de su vida, ha sido de barrendero, mesonero en la ciudad de caracas, por allá en los años 70 el cual me contaba que trabajaba en las Mercedes y estaba residenciado en la ciudad de caracas.
Me cuenta Saúl que tiene ya cuarenta años desempeñándose como vendedor ambulante de este elixir natural que es el jugo de caña, puesto que está ubicado en la zona de San Jacinto de la ciudad de Maracay, para ser exactos a la entrada del parque de feria, a una cuadra de la redoma de San Jacinto.
One of my obligatory stops every time I visit the city of Maracay is to pass by my friend Saul's stall, which has a sugar cane mill.
I will tell you a brief history or bio of my friend Saul. Saul Medina born in 1952 in the town of Ospino in the state of Guarico, which many of his trades throughout his life, has been sweeper, waiter in the city of Caracas, back in the 70's which told me that he worked in Mercedes and was residing in the city of Caracas.
Saul tells me that he has been working for forty years as a peddler of this natural elixir that is the sugar cane juice, located in the area of San Jacinto in the city of Maracay, to be exact at the entrance of the fairgrounds, one block from the redoma de San Jacinto.
Para colocarlos en contexto mi bello estado de Aragua cuenta con unos de los más hermosos valles que desde la colonia, su tierra se ha aprovechado para el cultivo de caña. A estas plantaciones se le llama cañaverales, estos cañaverales se aprecia en toda la extención de la ARC este acrónimo se refiere a la (Autopista Regional del Centro) o troncal 3 del sistemas de vias y carreteras de mi pais Venezuela.
Empresas de renombre nacional e internacional es la Hacienda santa Teresa, cultiva la caña para luego extraer el jugo de la caña y se fermenta para la producción del Ron "Santa Teresa", tema que hablaré pronto en mis publicaciones.
To put them in context my beautiful state of Aragua has some of the most beautiful valleys that since colonial times, its land has been used for the cultivation of sugar cane. These plantations are called cane plantations, these cane fields can be seen throughout the extension of the ARC, this acronym refers to the (Autopista Regional del Centro) or trunk 3 of the system of roads and highways of my country Venezuela.
Hacienda Santa Teresa is a nationally and internationally renowned company that grows sugar cane and then extracts the juice from the cane and ferments it for the production of “Santa Teresa” rum, a subject that I will talk about soon in my publications.
Volviendo al tema de Saúl y su humilde trapiche, es un trailer móvil de 2,5 mts por 1,8 mts con un eje para sus 2 ruedas, dónde cuenta con un mecanismo de molienda impulsada por un motor a gasolina de marca HONDA de 2 tiempos de 6,5 HP (caballos de fuerza) y está es transmitida por un sistema de polea y correa a una caja reductora y aporta mas fuerza a la prensa de rodillos y asi logre extraer el jugo de la caña. Dicho trailer es acarreado por un vehículo de paseo Chevrolet Nova del año 1975.
El jugo se extrae de la caña para ser más específico, es una graminia originario de Nueva Guinea y se empezó a cultivar en las nuevas indias o indias occidentales, su nombre cientifico es Saccharum officinarum L., está planta es muy útil en la agroindustria, ya sea para la producción de azucar y del alcohol (etílico y isopropílico).
Returning to the subject of Saul and his humble trapiche, it is a mobile trailer of 2.5 mts by 1.8 mts with an axle for its 2 wheels, where it has a grinding mechanism driven by a HONDA 2-stroke gasoline engine of 6.5 HP (horsepower) and is transmitted by a pulley and belt system to a gearbox and provides more power to the roller press and thus achieve extract the juice from the cane. This trailer is hauled by a 1975 Chevrolet Nova touring vehicle.
The juice is extracted from the cane to be more specific, it is a graminia native to New Guinea and began to be cultivated in the New Indies or West Indies, its scientific name is Saccharum officinarum L., this plant is very useful in agribusiness, either for the production of sugar and alcohol (ethyl and isopropyl).
El amigo Saúl con una gentil sonrisa, atiende a sus clientes transeúntes de a pie o en vehículos y de todas las clases ya que se paran vehículos de todos los modelos de los más nuevos y costoso a los más viejos, indicándome que consume esta bebida personas de distintas clases sociales sin discriminar lo humilde de su puesto, consume jugo de caña con o sin limón, esta bebida tiene beneficios al ser diurética y energética al tener alto nivel de glucosa.
Para mí es grato presentar a este pintoresco personaje y su humilde puesto de caña, que con sacrificio consigue la caña en la zona de santa cruz de Aragua, sector de los valles de Aragua donde hay cañaverales.

The friend Saul with a gentle smile, serves his customers passers-by on foot or in vehicles and of all classes since they stop vehicles of all models from the newest and most expensive to the oldest, indicating that people of different social classes consume this drink without discriminating the humble of his post, consumes cane juice with or without lemon, this drink has benefits to be diuretic and energy to have high level of glucose.
It is a pleasure for me to introduce this picturesque character and his humble sugar cane stand, who with sacrifice gets the cane in the area of Santa Cruz de Aragua, a sector of the valleys of Aragua where there are sugar cane fields.
