Learning how to eat may not seem like
a big deal to others, but everyone's experience is unique. For me, eating one meal a day or even just a snack is a significant achievement, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. In this blog, I'll share my journey of taking another step towards coping differently—learning to let go of guilt when eating.
Have you tried Filipino barbecue? Did you like it? What's your favorite BBQ dish? Personally, I only eat the meat and hotdogs - I'm quite picky when it comes to food and don't usually eat BBQ. However, when my partner and I started living together for our demo practice, I ventured out of my comfort zone and tried new foods. To save money, I prefer eating at the boarding house, but our hectic schedule means I have no time to cook, so we often dine out. I enjoy BBQ because it's not only delicious but also budget-friendly. I love pairing BBQ with extra hot sauce, Mountain Dew, and of course, rice. As a Filipino, a meal isn't really a meal without rice. Rice is basically our driving force of life and we pair it with anything. My partner and I usually have BBQ for dinner, as it tastes better at night - do you agree?
When we don't have BBQ for dinner, we usually grab lunch at nearby fast-food chains. In fact, I'm writing this blog from Jollibee right now. We typically rotate between three favorites: McDonald's, Jollibee, and Mang Inasal. McDonald's is a hit with us, thanks to their unlimited gravy. When we order chicken or chicken fillet, it's more like gravy with a side of chicken! Sometimes, our rice turns into a gravy soup. My go-to order at McDo is chicken fillet with a McFloat - my favorite combo. We used to frequent McDo during lunch breaks when we had class, but now we prefer Jollibee. My Jollibee weakness is their spaghetti; I absolutely love it! Although they don't offer unlimited gravy, their refreshing air-conditioning makes up for it - a welcome change from McDo's milder climate.
When it comes to eating at Mang Inasal, we don't frequent it often due to budget constraints. We only dine there for lunch or dinner if I have extra funds. We've mastered the 'pinagbabawal na technique' – when I can't afford unlimited rice, my partner orders it and shares some with me. Does anyone else do this? What we love about Mang Inasal is that we always leave satisfied. Their food is delicious, especially their 'hita at paa' and signature sauce. I also like adding oil to my rice for extra flavor.
I used to think snacks were a waste of money, but thankfully, my partner changed my perspective. Now, I indulge in my cravings without guilt. I have many favorite snacks: pizza, spaghetti, and ice cream. My partner and I also love waffles - I've collected over 50 waffle wraps! For chips, Vcut is my partner's favorite; she actually introduced me to it, and now I'm tempted to buy some whenever I see it. After class, we enjoy street food: tempura and fishballs are my go-tos, while my partner prefers hotdogs. If street food won't suffice, we head to the nearest lugawan for a hearty meal. We love adding plenty of pepper and garlic to our lugaw, paired with icy Mountain Dew. We're also fans of fries, but only buy them if we're craving ice cream - the perfect pair!
