Guitar practice jam (E major pentatonic)

in Guitar5 years ago

Ages ago I signed up to the Guitar Mastery Method school after a recommendation from @hammaraxx. The school is okay and I got a lot of lessons for a fairly low fee, but I have yet to work through them all. They do keep up the pressure for you to buy more courses, even when you are still signing up for the first one. I find that annoying. I get almost daily emails from them, but some of those are just links to some extra free lessons. I have been trying to work through some of those to pick up some new ideas. I really have more than enough free lessons to keep me busy for life, but courses can be good to get more structure to your practice.

This is me trying some licks from a lesson on the E major pentatonic scale. They provide the backing track that they will work over. I use the minor pentatonic a lot, but ought to look more at the major as it will work better for some tunes. I found a little U2 riff also worked over this and I tried a few variations of my own. I hit some wrong notes, but that is part of the learning process.

The guitar is my Benford custom Telecaster played through my Zoom G3X that provides a Marshall simulation and a little delay.

Here is the original lesson. Of course he plays these licks much better than me.

I am posting this in the Steem Guitar community. It would be cool to get some other guitar posts in there. I want to see what other people are working on and what gear you use. I will distribute votes to stuff I like.

I know this is monday, but I ought to bring back #TeleTuesday. Doing videos pushes me to practice more.

Rock on!

@steevc interesting lesson. I´m also trying to work more on practicing/playing the penta major scale. Nice Tele!

Great Steve, I just to buy the magazine "Total Guitar" it also came with a CD with all kinds of lessons and backing tracks, ours of fun to play... Didn't knew your community, I will for sure post some guitar posts in it !!! Thanks for pointing it out to me !!!

I very rarely buy magazines these days. I get a free Taylor one that I struggle to find time to read. There is just so much stuff online these days. I am not so interested in reading about gear as I don't plan to buy anything for now.

I don't buy magazines anymore neither. But there was a time I bought them every month, total guitar, besides the practice songs there was often some gift like a guitar strap or stickers :) Still have some stickers on my flightcase if I recall correct :)

I hate places like that who are trying to get you to renew before you even start with the subscription in the first place. Don't ask me how I know but the NRA is like that too. It is horrible. I have to believe that U2 songs are pretty hard to play. Especially ones from around the Achtung Baby era.

I agree. One would tend to think most U2 songs are easy -some are indeed- but that´s not true. I think that some songs from Achtung Baby era, and some from previous times, are the best of them. I´m not a hugh U2 fan, but I like some of their work.

They probably are just hearing the bass line from "With or Without You" :)

Haha, yes. I´m a guitar nuts, but I believe that a nice and properly played bass line is as important as the other instruments, even those "easy ones" as that from "With or without you". I´d actually like to play bass too :)

You should check out @verhp11, he is a bass god!

Already checked and followed! Thanks!

I'm the only one on the Steem blockchain that can't play the guitar. Why do I suck so bad?

I could do you some Skype lessons for Steem :) You have other talents that I can't match.

No, you're not, I'm useless at guitar too!

@Steevc's clientele is growning :)

Not the only one!
