My Fender Stratocaster 1992 Restoration (ENG/ESP)

in Guitar3 years ago

Hello!!! This is my Fender Stratocaster MIJ 1992, I bought it in a very bad paint condition, although it worked perfectly and played divinely. I bought it from a guy who I later became friends with. The guitar was quite battered, it had made a "relic" but in a very bad way, so some time after having it I decided to restore it.

Hola!!!

The cavities had been beaten on purpose, because "that gave it a better tone" nothing could be further from the truth, the hardware had been dyed gold, to imitate the John Mayer Strat.

At this point I simply put it together with its electronics (Fender Japan) and its original hardware (Gotoh), the only thing I did differently was that I made a custom bone nut. The guitar had a very nice and versatile tone, but if you have read my previous posts you already know what I did with the pickups.... Yes, I did put EMG - SA on it (the same ones used by David Gilmour), and it stayed that way for a while.

One day I got bored of seeing her with such a poorly achieved relic and I prepared to return it old original color, at this point I didn't know what color was, I was counting on the fact that they had not sanded all the color on the back of the body... And Yes!!! there was the original color very battered but it was distinguishable, it was Lake Placid Blue, so I asked for the exact color, bought the materials and started the restoration work, you know, sand, clean, sand, paint, sand, repaint, sand, sand and sand.

With the paint completely dry, we sanded again and waxed, to start putting everything back together, strangely enough I decided to put back its original pickups and electronics except for the bridge where I put a Fender STD pickup. I also removed all the gold paint from the tremolo and jack plate and left it in its original silver.... And so this Fender Stratocaster MIJ 1992 was renewed and got back the look it had when it left the factory back in the 90's. I hope you liked and enjoyed this post.

That looks great. I'm sure getting such a nice finish takes a lot of work. I've not attempting to paint any guitars yet.
