7 Billion is a lot of money. This is interesting. I wonder if there are charity status options for advancing education or free-thinking. If donations to educational or scientific institutions count, then I guess I would not object to tax breaks for donating to regilious organizations.
I can attest to some religious groups commendable work with the poor and sick. I know that costs a lot of money and many of these groups do not have lots of donnors or sponsors. I respet anyone who genuinely cares about the elderly, abandoned children or sick people. I have met some and I think they deserve any donation.
That being said, I also know plenty of con artists who sue religion only to advance themselves and get fancy toys (cars, houses, even planes).
I like your proposal of changing the law so that donations are not interested. That would be a test to their faith.
