Hello hello, my dear hivers. Today we will make another visit to a place in Baracoa. We go to the famous Taco Bay.
It is a closed bay that can be reached by road from Moa or Baracoa. Nestled in the heart of the Alejandro de Humboldt National Park, it is a wonder of the landscape, and a must-see point of reference.
When there was no Moa-Baracoa highway, Taco Bay was used to shorten the way to Baracoa, using rudimentary boats, or rafts with outboard motors to disembark and then continue the route by land.
The populations that lived in the area, before 1959, report that life in Taco was always hard, and that the extraction of mangrove bark to make charcoal was one of the main activities.

Surrounded by mangroves, the coconut trees speak of a rocky substrate rich in calcium carbonate. Like magic, Taco Bay emerges from a place where paradise seems to have descended to stop being a dream. Thus she endures, virgin and captive between green and blue, as a prodigal daughter of Mother Nature, from whom she inherited the beauty and immensity of an entire universe squeezed into herself. Genuine is, among all, the legendary bay.
The stories go that before 1945, the landowners' planes landed in these waters, and that a community was formed where a sawmill was established that produced thousands of cubic meters of precious wood.
On the tour around the bay you can see ruins of a settlement of North American families that settled until the end of the 1950s and remains of the old communication route.
It has the best marine ecosystem in the country, or at least the best preserved, and there are red, white, pataban and llana mangroves, Cuban forest species that only exist here under the same habitat. It is something exclusive in the vegetation of the mangrove, a small key formed by volcanogenic-sedimentary tuffs, which capriciously have resisted the passing of the years, serving as a base for a soil where a vegetal formation with plants with hard and brittle leaves develops.

De igual forma, la abundancia de cocoteros ha permitido el desarrollo de una rica repostería en la zona, y muchas recetas que incluyen la leche de coco, la manteca de coco y por supuesto, son famosos los cucuruchos de coco.
El sitio es visitado por turistas que escogen el lugar como una de sus paradas obligatorias.

As a curious fact, in these waters protected by the bay, live a pair of manatees, the only living herbivorous marine mammal in Cuba. Personally, I have never been able to get a photograph of them, but there are sightings and park rangers attest to their existence.
Likewise, the abundance of coconut trees has allowed the development of delicious pastries in the area, and many recipes that include coconut milk, coconut butter and, of course, the famous coconut cones.
The site is visited by tourists who choose the place as one of their mandatory stops
