En las últimas publicaciones hemos estado recorriendo muchas de las exposiciones que se presentan en Centros y Galerías de la Habana como parte de la Bienal de Arte Internacional.
Hace unos días decidí llegarme hasta el Edificio de Arte Internacional del Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes. Una antigua y hermosa construcción que alberga en sus varios pisos la colección estatal del arte universal. Pero que con motivo de la Bienal exhibe algunos proyectos colectivos y personales en sus salas para exposiciones transitorias..
Apenas entramos al Museo encontramos esta obra de la Puertorriqueña Gisela Colón. Materia prima del Caribe es el título de esta obra instalativa que nace de sus experiencias personales y sociales con la violencia. Las que ella pudo transformar en energía positiva, buscando refugio y paz en la naturaleza.
El letrero en la puerta significa el título de la exposición colectiva que se presenta en una sala transitoria del primer piso. Una exposición de mujeres artistas que rompen con sus obras límites y prejuicios de género y sociales. Cada una desde su propia forma de representarlos y apoyadas en las tradiciones culturales de sus contextos.
Esta es la primera obra que se nos presenta...de la Haitiana Bárbara Prezeau, me parece una obra sugerente de calidez femenina. Trenzas, lluvia, manantial, son disímiles las alucinaciones que se me ocurren con esta instalación...
In-Part es una instalación compuesta por 79 corazones transparentes. 79 es la edad que tendria ahora el padre de la artista Jaime Lee Loy de Trinidad Tobago. Su padre murió a los 39 años de un ataque al corazón.
Belkis Ayón no solo fue una artista de increíble calidad. Tuve el placer de conocerla y disfrutar de su amable personalidad. Su obra se considera un aporte a las técnicas del grabado, y sus temas tienen una orientación antropologica hacia la cultura afrocubana.
En La Isla de las Nostalgias, el cuerpo insubordinado está atento al cambio, resiste la pesadumbre y reta al colonizador - escribió la artista Elsa María Meléndez. Es un diálogo entre la condición de ser mujer y la condición colonial de Puerto Rico.
La francesa residente en la Guyana Francesa, Tabita Rezaire participa con Sugar Walls Teardom, una video instalación que avala los aportes de las mujeres negras para el avance de la ciencia y la tecnología.
La escultura que vimos antes y este vídeo conforman la obra de la haitiana Bárbara Prezeau. Para ella las trenzas son su conexión con su madre y su infancia en Haití.
Lisandra Ramírez de Cuba presenta: La cena, obra que es parte de la serie Memorias. Su discurso se muestra sobre una mesa, donde las vajillas incompletas y fragmentadas son acompañadas con imágenes de otros elementos que no están, haciendo alusión a conflictos sociales, políticos y culturales.
Con un discurso sobre la historia, la dominación y el status conferido a Aruba como paraíso turístico, Alida Martínez nos presenta su obra: Isla Auba. Con imágenes y recursos religiosos, politicos y personales, Martínez explora el universo de la tridimensionalidad dentro de su obra.
Sweeping the fields, es una serie de 4 fotografías que documentan la acción de barrer que realizó la artista Annalee Davis de Barbados en los campos de la vaqueria Walkers Dairy en Barbados. Considerado un acto de limpieza, memoria y perspectiva hacia el futuro....
PR R Poder, Resistencia, Rebelión....es una instalación de la puertorriqueña Anaida Hernández. Hace 30 años está artista participó en la Bienal de la Habana con una obra referente al feminicidio en su país, pero ahora ella también está interesada en celebrar la vida y de eso trata esta instalación.
La Vaughn Belle, artista de las Islas Vírgenes Americanas presenta una instalación de dimensiones variables realizada con pintura acrílica sobre 45 platos de papel. En ella, según la artista, aborda la creación y consumo de imágenes coloniales y los procesos históricos de fragmentación cultural de su tierra.
El trabajo con el grabado y la perspectiva instalativa identifica a Joscelyn Gardner, una artista de Barbados que nos presenta su obra: Scroll of spit and spume l, del 2018. Gardner desde una perspectiva femenina contemporánea revela historias del pasado y subvierte la visualidad tradicionalmente se les adjudicó.
Me dió mucho aliento está exposición. Las obras están bien distribuidas por los espacios de la sala del museo y muestran una madurez del arte realizado por mujeres de nuestro contexto caribeño. Obras que mezclan muy bien el peso de nuestras tradiciones históricas, sociales y culturales con una mirada actual de continuidad y sobretodo de bienestar humanista. In the last few publications we have been touring many of the exhibitions that are presented in Havana's Centers and Galleries as part of the International Art Biennial.
A few days ago I decided to go to the International Art Building of the National Museum of Fine Arts. As soon as we entered the museum we found this work by Puerto Rican artist Gisela Colón. Materia prima del Caribe is the title of this installation work born from her personal and social experiences with violence. She was able to transform them into positive energy, seeking refuge and peace in nature.
The sign on the door signifies the title of the group exhibition that is presented in a transitory room on the second floor. An exhibition of women artists who break with their works limits and gender and social prejudices. Each one from their own way of representing them and supported by the cultural traditions of their contexts.
This is the first work presented to us... by the Haitian Bárbara Prezeau, it seems to me a suggestive work of feminine warmth. Braids, rain, spring, are dissimilar the hallucinations that come to my mind with this installation...

I was very encouraged by this exhibition. The works are well distributed throughout the spaces of the museum hall and show a maturity of art made by women in our Caribbean context. Works that mix very well the weight of our historical, social and cultural traditions with a current look of continuity and above all of humanistic welfare.
